PROJECT ABSTRACT
WE HAD A JAR WITH A FEW MAGNETS AND SOME RGB LEDS IN IT...
WE THREW IN SOME GLITTER AND CHALLENGED OURSELVES TO MAKE SOMETHING COOL.

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS
SOMETHING COOL MUST BE MADE FROM THE JAR, THE MAGNETS, THE LEDS, AND THE GLITTER.
PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
THE JAR AND GLITTER
WITH THE GIVEN ITEMS, WE DECIDED IT WOULD BE COOL TO MAKE A SPINNING SNOWGLOBE LAMP.
WE PUT THE GLITTER IN THE JAR AND FILLED IT WITH WATER. TO MAKE THE WATER/GLITTER SPIN, WE ADDED A 3D-PRINTED SPINNER WITH TWO OF OUR MAGNETS EMBEDDED IN IT. WE CUT A CLEAR ACRYLIC LID TO TO REPLACE THE METAL ONE. WITH THE METAL LID BAND IN PLACE THE JAR IS WATERTIGHT.

THE HOUSING AND ELECTRONICS
TO LIGHT AND DISPLAY OUR SNOWGLOBE LAMP WE 3D-PRINTED A TOP AND BOTTOM HOUSING.
THE TOP AND BOTTOM HOUSING EACH HAVE FOUR RGB LEDS. THE BOTTOM HOUSING ALSO HOLDS A SMALL MOTOR AND 3D-PRINTED SPINNER DRIVE PLATE. THE DRIVE PLATE CONTAINS TWO MAGNETS THAT COUPLE WITH THE MAGNETS INSIDE THE SPINNER. THIS ALLOWS US TO SPIN THE SPINNER INSIDE THE JAR WITHOUT PHYSICALLY CONNECTING TO IT.
TO DRIVE THE LEDS AND MOTOR WE USED AN STM32F072 DISCOVERY DEV BOARD WE HAD LYING AROUND.
OUR FIRMWARE CONTROLS THE POWER TO THE MOTOR AND DRIVES THE LEDS TO CREATES THE LIGHTING SEQUENCES.

THE RESULTS
A LITTLE SOLDERING AND SOME HOT-GLUE AND THIS IS WHAT WE ENDED UP WITH.
WE'RE NOT TAKING THIS PAST THE CHALLENGE STAGE, SO NO PCB, ETC. IF WE EXTENDED THE PROJECT WE'D CHANGE TO A PI-ZEROw ANYWAY.
